The medical library has the latest findings supporting the moderate consumption of alcohol as part of healthy diet and lifestyle are reviewed by Helena Conibear, Harvey Finkel M.D reports on the effect of alcohol on obesity and Professor R.Curtis Ellison reviews several recent medical papers.
In our Social and Policy library there is news in the UK showing that male adult excessive consumption is continuing to decline while female consumption is levelling off, inspite of the ONS recalculation of units to reflect larger and stronger servings of wine (a glass of wine is now calculated as two units instead of one). A new European report ranks the UK as drinking less alcohol per capita than most of it's European peers, although the study does not look at patterns of drinking, context or drinking frequency.
